I've done it and it can be a very useful way of obtaining your degree. You must have some discipline of course. If you are a working person, need flexibility, and have discipline, its a great way to go. Some people NEED that structure of an actual classroom setting. I would try ONE class and see how you do. That will give you a feel of how it works for you. Good Luck

For my undergraduate years and my first master's degree I attended school on campus. And my second master's was about 75% online and 25% on campus...all at the same university. The graduate program I was in was quite anxious to become available to take completely online.

Here are my thoughts:

I think you make more friends and build stronger, longer lasting relationships when you're in a campus setting. Working online is an often isolating experience. You don't really get to know your classmates at all. And the biggest difference of all, is the student-teacher relationship. I think it's harder to "know" your teachers and learn from them online. Granted, there may be some courses where you don't want to "know" your teachers or your classmates...but by the time you've chosen your major and started taking specialized classes in that subject...there is a big difference. In an on-campus setting, these people become your friends, and school becomes "home." You know your teachers and they know you. You love "school" both because of the subject matter and the people.

That being said, online is more convenient. You definitely have the chance to be lazier. And believe me, I was a lazy student when I could get away with it.

Ground campus is better because the tests are not as hard. You also meet people who are in the same boat as you are and can help you study. I'm not saying internet classes are not as good because they are good. I'm just saying school is more fun learning with other students and conversing with a teacher face to face. I've had both and I would choose a ground college over internet classes especially if the school is close.

I haven't attended a college yet but i do want to go to culinary school some day and maby some other classes. I'm not sure if i would attend college online or not but that would be kind of a fun thing because you wouldn't even have to get out of your pj's at all and you wouldn't maby have to deal with a professor in person. But then you would probably miss out on some of the cool things in college like hanging out with friends playing different college sports and working in one of the food areas because i do know that students get to work in the different food courts and other places.Thats my take on that.

Personally, I favor online classes.

I like to work at my own pace. During my undergrad studies, I was so bored during lectures because I already knew what the professor was talking about.

Also, instead of having a set schedule, I can work whenever I want (within reason) if the class is online.

It all depends on one's needs. If one is not structured or disciplined enough to follow through with online classes, definately go with "ground" campus.

As long as the online college is accredited it's just as good as attending in person. (Actually I think it's better. Never have to get out of bed to go to class!)

You will learn more by going to campus. If you are just looking for easy credit take it online.

Absolutely. In fact, I prefer online to actually going to class.
