My daughter is getting a combo of about 40% breast milk and 60% formula, she only has about 2 bowel movements a day, sometimes only one. She does not appear uncomfortable, is this normal or should I be worried?

To the people that tell me how terrible I am and that I should be strictly breastfeeding- I can't, I have tried everything under the sun and I pump and let her nurse every hour!!

As a dietitian, I feel that each child will have his/her own bowel patterns. Obviously, you are doing your best to breastfeed. Do not feel badly about not breastfeeding entirely. If your child is steadily gaining weight and is "eating" enough to satisfy her, then she should be just fine. Each child has her own bowel schedule. Therefore, if your daughter only has 1 bowel movement daily, then don't worry about it... as long as she is getting enough formula and fluid. She should have 7-10 wet diapers daily, simply due to the amount fluid she drinks. As far as bowel movements go, just be sure that she is regular- meaning that whatever pattern she has, she is fairly consistent with it. Otherwise, you should have a healthy baby girl! Congrats!

A fully breastfed baby will usually have 2-5 bowel movements a day at that age. But with the mixture of nursing and formula, there is no way to know what is normal for her. Still it sounds like it's probably okay.

As for the breastfeeding...if you really want to exclusively nurse, contact La Leche League (see sources section below); they may be able to help, and their help is free. If you're happy as is, then ignore this comment... :-)

Use the babylax because the health practitioner counseled, your toddler received't change into depending. no longer all children react an same to breast milk, or to formula for that remember. between the flaws to consider is the warm temperature that has been at or close to list stages for the previous few weeks. This does have an result on children, pretty the youngest. attempt feeding him a bottle of water quite a few circumstances an afternoon. He would not could drink a lot, merely save fluids in him and his bowls would loosen on their own. %. up a gallon of toddler Water, that is formulated and in certain filtered for thier structures. provide it at room temperature in the initiating and be conscious how he takes to it. he's used to his mom's milk and it will be only somewhat hotter, so it really is an trouble-free transition to the cooler water. the superb element to do for now will be to grant him commonly used doses of babylax and under no circumstances enable him to flow 16 days on his own. i am hoping this helps.

the doctor has always told me that children dont have to have a bowl movement everyday. I have 3 children and mine went atleast once a day, you do not need to worry everything is normal. If your child seems uncomfortable because of not going then they say to give diluted applejuice or prune juice

Every baby is different. That sounds normal. My son had about 2 a day, every now & then he would go without any, but would make up for it the next day. If your worried call your pediatrican, but I think all is normal.

Don't listen to those People. Do what works for you & your baby. Your Pediatrician will be able to give a better explanation. But mine said that "Normal" is once a day to every other day.

I think that it's normal, since everyone is different. If she doesn't seem uncomfortable, then I think she's okay. If you're really all that concerned, then you should maybe take her to see a pediatrician and look at her kidneys.

I would not worry, at least she is having a movement. You should definitly mention this to your pediatrician only because these are the things that you are suppose to disscuss with them.

My baby is formula fed and she will go once every couple of days. With breastfed babies they should have at least one a day. Our doctor said this is normal.
