So, I was going to answer your question earlier but I had to finish the dishes- I havent done them in days and then I wanted to change my clothes cause I got my other ones wet while washing dishes. Anyhow, I decided to wear my blue skirt that I got on sale with my cute new white blouse but then i felt maybe green would be better since my friend was wearing blue also. (and she looks better in blue anyways..) So, I tried on the green skirt ( the one with the cute little flowers up the side) but it had a stain right in the front! Huge bummer!... anyhow...-
Wait! What was the question?

Not just women, but the majority is.
They need attention, they need to feel important. They need to feel they are interesting. Even if they are boring you to death, they never know it. It is also someone who never got to do things in the past and now that they can they want everyone to know all about it. They seem to have felt they were left out as a child. Things that are everyday to a lot of people are a big deal to these people. They just need attention to make them feel important.

Not all women, or americans for that matter do that. However, I think those who do are basically looking for either 1) validation or 2) a way to gracefully end a conversation without sounding rude.

Its not just women, but mainly women. normally, people who do this are usually feeling ignored, in their lives, in general. Some also speak in an elevated tone. Subconsciously, they don't feel like they are being heard. It IS annoying but you will find that if you are around someone like this often, looking them in the eye when they speak, MAY help them curtail this habit....not guaranteed of course. Good luck

I find the more insecure a person is, the more tend to describe everything they are doing as though it's really important. I think the speaker often thinks they are being impressive doing all these things...

yes. They want people to think they are important enough to be heard out loud. Like they are more important then you.
That is why some people do that, they think they are so damn interesting.
Anybody trying so hard to do that is really a sad person who needs attention-and friends!
