This kinda came to mind waiting at a Chinese takeout joint to pick up my order. Everyone who came into the place in 20 mins. got cigarettes. 99% Sold were Newports. And in all my years and just about every place I go the one constant has been Blacks buy Newports over everything else? As a Non smoker I don't get it. What's the deal?

Ahem(sorry, smoker's cough from my Marlboro's!)! First of all, not all black people smoke Newport's, just like all white people don't smoke Marlboro's. Smoking, no matter what brand it is, is a nasty habit and I need to quit. Until then, I'll smoke whatever brand's on sale. You must have went to a ghetto Chinese joint if they sold cigarettes in there!

Not just black people like the 'breath taken away' that menthol ciggs do. My younger sister (white) smokes Newports and Kools, I smoke Marlboro 100's, maybe it is a generation thing, our dad use to smoke Marlboro shorts (before he died of cancer).
I really need to quit, but until I'm ready I'll keep smoking my cowboy killers. It is about individual taste.

My Dad is white as a sheet and has smoked Kools and then Newports for 30 years

well...i'm not stereotyping, just giving honest observation from personal experience. When I was in vietnam generally speaking among those who smoked, most of the black guys preferred menthol cigarettes...most commonly Kool, and most of the white guys smoked winston and Marlboro. I smoked non filters like camel, lucky, etc cause all the other guys would give me their c-rat cigs and i got more that way lol.

I'm white and I smoke Newports. And my brother in law who is A.A. smokes Marlboro lights.
