Yes, they did ...
"DC vs Marvel Comics" was a 1997 comic book mini-series by DC Comics and Marvel. In DC vs Marvel, two "Brothers" personify the universes that comics fans know as DC and Marvel. After becoming aware of the other's existence, the brothers challenge each other to a series of duels involving each universe's respective superheroes.
The matches (shown below) were written by Dan Jurgens and the outcome was determined by votes sent in by readers. Despite Marvel achieving more votes than its rival, and thus winning more matches, the series' storyline opted not to show one side victorious. The authors wisely reserved calling the winner of six of the eleven matches so they could make the outcome seem close regardless of the votes. As voters voted Marvel the winner in three of the five "open to vote" matches (DC's Superman and Batman winning their matches), this proved a prescient move. The final outcome was a 6–5 Marvel "victory". After Superman defeated the Hulk, it was revealed that the Amalgam universe would be used to settle the dispute, making the Marvel victory an ambiguous one. In essence, no side "won" since the fighting was stopped to make way for the new universe.
Match outcome believability was also compromised. In a match with Lobo, a being who destroys a planet and has power levels rivaling Superman's, Wolverine defeats Lobo off-panel; at the time, Wolverine's claws were not even coated in adamantium as is the case during most of his history, but were rather mere bone, making the mutant's victory even more implausible (perhaps in recognition of that, the creators chose to have him win off-panel). Ultimately, the Brothers decided to "settle things in their own way" by temporarily creating a new universe. This new universe, called the Amalgam universe, saw a merging of each company's most popular heroes into new ones: Dark Claw (Batman + Wolverine), Spider-Boy (Spider-Man + Superboy), etc. Each new hero starred in a one-shot comic book, all of which were released prior to the series' fourth and final chapter. Caught in the middle of the two worlds was an inter-dimensional traveler by the name of Access.
The miniseries was a top vote-getter for the Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Award for Favorite Limited Series for 1997.
Matches include:
Spider-Man (Ben Reilly) defeats Superboy (Both clones of the original heroes)
Superman defeats Hulk
Thor defeats Captain Marvel (Thor uses his hammer to stop Billy Batson being hit by the lightning that will turn him into Captain Marvel)
Robin III defeats Jubilee (Although it is reluctantly; the two have developed a relationship in their time together)
Wolverine defeats Lobo
Storm defeats Wonder Woman (Wonder Woman has acquired Thor's hammer, but discards it to make the battle fairer)
Batman defeats Captain America
Aquaman defeats Namor the Sub-Mariner
Flash (Wally West) defeats Quicksilver
Elektra defeats Catwoman
Silver Surfer defeats Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)

exactly what david said!!!
there was a graphic novel called dc vs marvel, which resulted in the amalgam universe, where characters were made from merging one dc character and one marvel character. the ones i can remember are darkwing (batman and wolverine) and super soldier (superman and captain america). i could probably list most of the other amalgam characters (as i have all the comics) and i could probably tell you which marvel character made them, but not which dc character as i dont read dc

Yes. It was a series of comic books called "Amalgam Universe", or something like that. And several characters from both Universes have crossed-over into the other universe many times.

i don't think of they ought to. To me, there have been too few exciting characters created by utilizing the Amalgam Universe. i trust like the heroes it produced were deliberately tacky and second-cost. darkish-claw? large-Soldier? They were terrible! I beloved the as against subject matters preferable into the Amalgam introduction, yet to me the artists and writers made a mockery of the characters. as if to assert "look, the characters won't be able to get any better, that's what takes position when we pay interest to fan discussions!" almost like they were attempting to coach comic followers to end hypothesis and methods their own company. in the adventure that they were to do it back, i imagine that that they had want to administration it heavily and characteristic the superb writers somewhat imagine about it. particularly of merely lumping Wolverine inclusive of Batman they ought to imagine about 2 characters with extra similarity. Batman has extra in undemanding with the Punisher (their motivations besides) and their diverse critiques on killing would make a fusion an exciting, conflicted personality. the nature i did not hate became The Hyena (Sabertooth/Joker blend), merely because it made me snort.
