I was a hard core democrat and one day my bank went public and as a member of the bank they offered me shares without commissions so I invested $1000 dollars two weeks pay to buy 100 shares @$10 each . The stock went up to $40 and I sold it thinking I just made 3000 dollars profit. Then I had to pay Capital Gains tax What? Capital Gains is a tax only paid by the rich? When I was in high school Regan tried to cut it and the Democrats screamed he is only helping the rich. So I thought why am I paying this tax. After giving the IRS $1000 I asked if i would have lost that 1000 dollars i invested would you give me three hundred of it? No! Could I have claimed the 1000 dollar loss on my taxes? Only to offset gains on other investments not salary.?
I thought am I rich? No. Am I a Democrat not anymore. It looks like their plan is to keep me down. If I invest a few bucks I assume all the risk yet they take their third if I gain. Even if I already paid taxes on the money when I worked.
Now I am an Independent. I read everthing but the conspiricy BS.

This has long been a query of mine, too. The only thing i can think of is that poor people tend to be undereducated, therefore more suseptible to the posturing of shyster politicians. They are more likely to be religious because religion gives them a valid reason for their suffering. It helps to believe that if you are suffering and poor on earth you will be rewarded after you die. Again, they tend to believe unethical people, this time preachers, which are actually kind of similiar to politicians when you think about it. Since they tend to be undereducated they lack the intelectual sophistication to figure out when someone is lying to them about something they want to believe so damn badly, because it sure would be nice to see those rich people get what's coming to them in the afterlife and them( the poor) get their reward. It's the same mindset with voting Republican. Republicans tell them what they want to hear before the election, they buy it because they also tend to be passive and trusting, the poor, because they are already used to being passive with agencies that help the poor and this is behavior they feel comfortable with. After the election, of course, Republicans do what Republicans do best (take care of their rich buddies) and tell the poor people who voted for them that it's in their best interests. They believe them because of the reasons listed above and the whole ugly circle starts over again. That's my theory, anyway.

That make so little sense. You've been watching too much MTV again. Lazy poor people with 12 or 13 kids running around naked who suck welfare out of the government always vote democrat.
Any poor people who vote republican know they will soon be middle class through hard work and education. Perhaps even rich.

Well, if you vote Democrat you'll get robbed blind. If you vote Republican they (the Republicans) will make sure you're too poor to steal from.
I guess the poor folks that are voting Republican already got robbed blind by the Democrats. Now they feel like they've got nothing left to loose.
The sad truth is, they're screwed either way.

I think many of them don't vote... those that do are often very religious and do so only on moral issues like abortion and "will this guy have an affair" and have no concept of policy or how it affects them...
Pancakes: everyone who is poor is not lazy and on welfare... that's the VAST MINORITY... so they are probably talking about those people and maybe you should lay off the VH1... the south votes mainly Republican and has the lowest levels of education and highest levels of poverty... what you are saying doesn't make any sense...
don't you love all the mis-information on this question

Because Bush led a fear campaign so a lot of people fell for it. Sadly, that happens everywhere. Ideally, poor people would be much better off under the democrats, however most people think individualistically, instead of collectively, so with this mentality, right wing people will always be in power.

Because the GOP knows how to run a country, and how to provide jobs. Just because they are poor doesn't mean they are stupid. Now shut your mouth and go on thinking to yourself that you know how elections work.
Democrats envy Republicans b/c demos don't know how to work hard and make it for themselfs. It's not hard to get rich, you just have to work. Poor people aren't poor b/c of bad luck, they are just lazy. There will always be lazy people, hence the Democratic party.

Politicans are "usually" rich, they don`t care ANYTHING about the poor.Only themselves and the special interest groups that line their pockets with bribe money! Sad,but true! I`m 47 years old and have NEVER voted! I can NEVER decide which criminal I want to stab me in the back and STEAL my hard earned money! Oh, I don`t know why poor people vote, probably stupidity, thinking that a "different" criminal will treat them better!

THEY DON'T.... they vote democrat. That is why Kerry was busing people to the polls from the projects and ghettos. Old folk's homes need the same transportation to get out to vote, but Kerry wouldn't touch them... they vote typically Republican.... get your facts straight.

Unless you're in the voting booth with them, how do you know how they vote?
Most likely, poor people are not liberals, as they have little to be liberal about (money), so they are conservative, and as such, vote Republican.
