Usually, what the coach will do , is sacrifice an outfield player for the goalie. So the scenario goes
11 players, (10+1)
Goalie gets red card
Coach substitues , say, an attacker..and brings on the sub goalie.
So you have 10 players (9+1)
If your subs are all done, you are screwed. Then a player can become the goalie. (it's very rare but I have seen it happen)
You know, my US friends were more impressed by the level of fitness needed to play a soccer game when they found out you could not just sub out players as you like!:-)
footballer183 is dead wrong, and he should go read his / her rulebook. Any player can be declared a goalie and then they can use their hands. So, in the situation which all subs are used and the keeper is sent off, an outfield player will become the keeper

Yes, they may sub, but they would need to take another player, ie, a defenceman would go off, and the keeper would go on. If the subs are used up, welll your sol. YOu can have another player play goal, but hes not allowed to use his hands, or its a penalty kick. and if it comes to pk's well, tough luck, you shouldve just played by the rules.
I almost wonder if portugals keeper should have been red carded against the netherlands, he had a yellow, and then commited a foul, but he didnt get the yellow, and its a good thing otherwise that game wouldve gone the other way

A player has to move and become a goalie. The Americans invent sissy sports with sissy rules so they will never understand the true value of football.
