The way to diagnose is a pelvic laproscopic procedure. What can I expect after surgery? Will the pain be bad? I had my gall bladder removed laproscopically. Does it feel the same? When can I return to work?

You are correct in that Endo can only be proven by a laparoscopy. It can also be treated successfully during the lap, provided it is performed by a surgeon who truly recognizes all disease in all manifestations and is capable of truly excising it from all locations (see www.centerforendo.com for more info on excision). How painful it is and how long your recovery is depends on how much work is done during the lap - for instance, if he or she goes in to peek around and say "yes, there's Endo" and sew you back up, you'll only be in there about 40 minutes or so and will be feeling better in a couple of days. If meticulous work and removal is done, you will likely need about a week or so to feel better. You should definitely check this patient's guide out...you need to be a member to access it, but memership is free and private and the manual is SO worth it:

It's a little different than cholylap because with that, only the GB is being removed...with a lap for Endo, more work is typically done to the bowels, bladder, etc.

Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Dr. Seckin is among a very limited number of accredited endometriosis surgeon in the United States who possess advanced training for the Deep Laparoscopic Excision of Endometriosis. Although others perform basic laparoscopic surgery, few have the experience needed to execute the meticulous techniques required to sharply dissect and remove the all of Endometriosis from superficial to deeply infiltrating disease.

It wil be similar to the gallbladder procedure. You should be able to go back to work in a few days.
