No, Cowboy, Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement, not the academic of coaching. While the study of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology are all important, they are not the required fields of study for a coach. I would recommend a Physical Education major. In graduate training, try Sports and Recreation Management.

Remember that no coach can be successful if they don't know the game...be a player while in college, and as soon as your eligibility has expired, attempt to get an assistant's position on either the JV or Varsity team. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I coached High School before I had a degree...I was close to finishing my BS in Psychology.

I got the job because I had already completed my 3rd year of play at collegiate level and...I was good.

I coached 3 years of college football, swim team (2 years)Gymnastics (1 year), Ladies Softball(1 year), and I was a Strength and Power Coach for all teams...(2 years)
with a degree in Recreation, minor in Psychology.
And 5 years of college football.

If you are talking high school you don't need any degree at all. Helps to be in the school system just get a secondary education degree, once you get a job at a school then apply for a open coaching position. Hell For the 4 years while I was in college I was the JV football coach at a class A school, (1,200+ in Michigan).
Best thing to do is to meet or befriend the Head Coach or Athletic Director of a school.

You do not need a degree to be a coach. But having played football in college helps. Knowledge of the game is all that is needed to be a coach. You have to be able to communicate that knowledge to the players and motivate them to win.
