I guess this shows you where our country is going! The real reason they do it is because they do not understand the Government, and american Idol is simple. .... So what does that say about the USA and the way it is headed if we don't stand up and take action. I feel that the we need to be more educated on the Government and politics. That is what our country is built on.

Because anyone can vote for American Idol and you can vote like 30 times. I hate the show though.

It's a pain in the *** to have to take off work on a Tuesday morning to wait in line for 4 hours to hit a few buttons.
We have elections for everything every year it seems, some Congressional (either State or Federal) seat are always up for grabs we're always being bombarded with political campaigns to resolve issues that more than likely neither party has the nuts to resolve.
Option A -- Hunt through your house for your voter ID, take off work, fight traffic, spend money on gas, get to the voting station, wait in line for hours, fill out a form, complete the actual voting process in about 10 minutes, fight traffic on your way home.
Option B -- Dial an 11 digit phone number.
Which one would piss you off more?

That's not entirely true. More people voted for all of American idol then for just Bush, but less then all canadites in the presidential election. I do understand your concern though, it's disturbing to think that such junk could have such mass appeal. I suppose that maybe Idol is better at advertising then our government.

Because politics is boring, stuffy, and full of a bunch of bull. American Idol is entertaining, exciting, and its REAL. For that same reason FOX decided not to carry the president's speech and decided to go on with american idol instead.

Because if all we had to do to vote for people running for office is pick up a phone and dial a number, my guess is that more people would vote.
I think we should make election days holidays. The lines are so long during pre and post work hours, that most people don't bother.

Because making an informed choice about government is far more difficult than making an informed choice about American Idol (socio-economic policy is both much broader and much deeper that the question of whose singing you like best), while making uninformed choices is pretty boring - one does not have a stake in an uninformed choice.

'tis all the same insane bunch of puppets. the one has more publicity than the other due to advertisement. as a matter of fact voting for representation in government is pretty naive and irresponsible.

because the only slander we hear on American Idol is from Simon. With the candidates, they're just mudslinging and it gets very boring and very messy after awhile. People turn away from the elections because they're sick of the childish antics of the politicians.
