The French lost their enthusiasm for war in WW2 when the Nazis simply drove their Panzer tanks around the French Marginot Line which was an expensive state-of-the art defence against a WW1 trench warfare assault...it did look impressive though.

France then set the record for the smallest amount of time a major power capitulated to another.....

..then the modern French Navy, which was quite large, could not decide whether they should throw in with their former allies and legitimate government in exile or defect to the Vichy/Nazi puppet government. Indecisive, they hedged and waited too long to make a clear choice, and the more powerful British Navy had no choice but to all but completely annihilate it at Scapa Flow less the Germans gain a new and powerful 'instant navy'. This action sickened the British gunners who were ordered to fire at their their former allies....many whom were friends

....so lets say their judgement and track record has not been good in these matters for some time, including a stupid airspace ban when the US had to take care of Qaddafi's Libia, making flights more tedious, and exhausting for our aircrews....it's only air, monsieur.......WTF

The French actually build one of the best fighter planes in the world. It is aptly named the "Mirage" . If you think you are seeing one with French markings in a war-zone, you are really only seeing it's name.

...you'd probably see Snoopy in his Sopwith Camel first. ;0)

The Old Europe boasts a long and eventful history of imperialist conquests. Unlike you Americans, Europeans know that an invasion of a country is an act involving a myriad of cultural, geo-political, religious and historical factors to be taken into account. They do not, like you Ameriacans, think of invasion in purely technical terms. Remember that the Old Europe conquered almost all of the third world countries and managed to establish there some sort of stability and peaceful coexistence. Since you were referring to the MD, let me remind you that Europeans are familiar with complex and fragile ethnic and religious texture of the region. They anticipated all the civil strife going on now in the region following the American invasion. They knew beforehand that US would not be in a position to control the country, let alone restore stability and peace after the choas brought about by America

I think Europeans who are against the war have their rights too. Just as the people against the war in the US do. The military throughout history has fought and died for their right to believe as they wish. It's called Freedom. I could care less what the French think or do. They have enough problems with the Islam community and Jacques Chirac to deal with. I certainly have no intentions of basing my opinions and feelings on what is best for this country on what the French or anyone else may think.

Do some reading. World War II was not even anything similar to the war in Iraq... you went to Iraq to protect yourselves from weapons of 'mass destruction'... oh, but wait, there weren't even any! Good job protecting yourselves, yeah, how many soldiers have you lost already? If you had have put as much of your resources towards finding Bin Laden, the man responsible for 9/11, as you did towards getting rid of Saddam Hussein, maybe you would have your man by now.

well... "protect our self" seems to be the statement of concern... Iraq doesn't seem to have any possible way to attack us or hurt us... and it seems to be much more a haven for terrorists now, than it ever was under Saddam?

I didn't hear them complaining when we went into Afghanistan going after the people that actually attacked us? Maybe if we kept going after Osama, they may have even helped us?

You obviously know little about American history. The US did not go willingly to war to help Europe in either WW I or WW II. Until we were directly attacked, we did nothing for Europe in terms of defense.

Get it right before shooting your keyboard off.

There is an understanding. We can have military bases in their Countries for strategic reasons and we will help protect them. They don't have to be for our wars.

I don't understand what you are saying.

We attacked Iraq illegally and against international law. Germany attacked France and others. And we got involved after Pearl Harbor!

I don't see a parallel.
