I was wondering what you need for cable internet like do you need a cable tv subscription or could you just subscribe to cable internet and thats all you need.

The hard thing is access. Where I live there isn't any cable access. The other things you need are a computer and a cable modem. It is not required to have cable TV, but it is generally cheaper.

You do not need to have a cable TV subscription however you will get a much better rate on your monthly internet connection from your cable company if you sign up for a package deal. I am with Adelphia here in California and pay $130 for every channel, T-VO and a very fast connection.
So, to answer your question: all you need is a computer and the signal.

Depends on your local carrier. Some require you to have at least basic cable, some do not. Some charge extra if you do not have cable service. If you have a phone you may want to check if DSL is available in your area.

Depends on the company providing the service. Most of them now have just cable internet service. They will install it for you or you can do it yourself. You may have to pick up their cable modem kit.
