Say you had a bunch of ping-pong balls floating in the water of your bathtub. And once in awhile one or another of these ping-pong would just pop into the air for no reason. These are quarks as they were first explained. The water in your bathtub is the fabric of space. The ping-pong balls are what the fabric is made of. Now scietists are able to take a closer look at this phenomena and see that the fabric of space is not like the calm waters of you bathtub but like a conflagration of vibrating, jittery entities which are the basic components of existence. Go a step further and look up 'String Theory'.

There are 6 flavours of Quark: Up, Down, Top, Bottom, Strange and Charm.

3 Quarks make a proton or a neutron.

They are fundamental particles of matter, you (probably) can't get smaller than a quark (except for leptons such as electrons).

Normal matter quarks have a charge of +2/3e or -1/3e.

Antimatter quarks have the opposite charge to their corresponding normal matter quark.

It's what you'll hear from the snobish ducks that float around in the ponds of London.

No seriously quarks are a type of subatomic particles that go to make up protons and neutrons and stuff like that. They come in six types: up, down, strange, charm, bottom and top as well as their corresponding antiparticles. The up and down particles are what makes up protons and neutrons. The others are a bit rarer. The top quark, the heaviest, was only discovered relatively recently. It's existance was known beforehand due to the predictions of QCD, Quantum Chromodynamics.

A wikipaedea search'll probably help you further if you wan't detail.

It used to be that scientists thought that the smallest particles were atoms. Then they discovered that atoms were made up of protons, electrons and neutrons. And now they are studying that the protons and neutrons are made up of even smaller particles called quarks.
