If there is a history of twins in a family, it's usually make it more likely that that person may have twins. since you have that history on both sides of th family it may be more likely. some people i have met it tends to happen every other generation. from what you are saying it's sound like you more then likely may be having twins. the only way to know for sure is to ask your doctor and he/she may do an ultra sound to see if there are two growths. this is at the discretion of your doctor in many cases.
no matter how it turns out congratulations and be sure to take prenatal care for you child / children.

A family history increases your chances. It follows the maternal history all the way (mom, mom's mom, maternal grandmother's mom, etc.) Everyone is different so there is no way to say you are larger than what you should be. Even with subsequent pregnancies you may carry different, gain weight different, show earlier or later, etc. Breast size also isn't an indication because a twin pregnancy doesn't change the size of your breasts as compared to a singleton pregnancy. Nausea and lightheadedness are normal symptoms of pregnancy. I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say "tapping" but it's too early for you to feel any movement. At 9 weeks a baby is quite small and does not have enough strength to cause a strong movement to be felt. It's possible to miss a twin on ultrasound, but based on your symptoms, I wouldn't jump to conclusions without proof. A blood test would show high hcg levels. Ultrasound has come a long way in just the past 5-10 years, it's used with great faith to diagnosis extreme complications. Chances of missing something that is routinely ruled out such as multiple pregnancy is less and less of an occurrence.

Your symptoms are a few of what a multiple pregnancy feels like. However, this is only proven by ultrasound.
You may also be bloated, as this is a huge side effect of any pregnancy. Another big possibility is the growth of fibroids, which could also increase your uterine size. These normally grow beginning in the 2nd month of pregnancy - I have also learned this in the past.
Hopefully you're not setting yourself up for disappointment - many mothers lose a twin before 12 weeks of pregnancy is up. It's called Vanishing Twin Syndrome. My point is, it shouldn't matter how many children you're pregnant with - one healthy one is as much of a blessing as two.
I wouldn't consider an increase in breast size a signal of anything but at least a singleton pregnancy - most womens' breasts do grow quite a bit. Mine always grew to at least twice the size, and now that I'm 4 mos pregnant with twins - mine did more than 3 times within the 2nd month.
Either way, see your doctor if you're concerned about your size. Your doc won't argue an earlier consult. If he/she has an ultrasound in their office, this would be beneficial. Mine does have an ultrasound in his office, so I get an ultrasound with every 2 week checkup.

Being pregnant with twins is possible bases on what runs in your family but feeling the tapping on both sides of your uterus is odd for any person at 9 weeks. Most people dont feel fetal movement before 16 weeks or so. You are huge for twins or otherwise. I'd have another ultrasound to rule out being farther along. And sometimes people get really bloated when pregnant so that could be it as well. None the less congrats on your baby (or babies).

There has to be something terribly wrong with your dates. You look as if you are at term already. You would not show that much even if you were pregnant with twins at 9 weeks. The baby is only like 2 centimeters at this stage. Like the size of a kidney bean :) Also, these days it is almost impossible for the doctor to miss the diagnosis of twins at 6 weeks since it is very easily seen on ultrasound. I would consult your doctor for further advice...let him/her know all of your concerns and I am sure they would be happy to repeat the ultrasound.

If you are 9 weeks pregnant you would not be showing. You are about as big as me and I am 28 weeks right now and pregnant with just one baby. So you may want to go back and see your OB and get the correct date of when you are due. Looking at a person's stomach cannot determine if you are carrying more than one either, my husband thought I would be pregnant with twins because I started pooching out early but not did not look at anything the way you claim to be at 9 weeks. Good luck and congrats!

Ok to stop your mind from wandering send hubby to Wal-Mart too get one of those heartbeart thingies for about 30 bucks and listen for three heartbeats at home. Don't get confused because one may be your own so listen for the ones going very fast. Babies heart beat a lot faster than adults. So to ease your worries without bugging your doctor, invest in the machine its the same size the doc. uses in the baby section.

tapping on both sides means nothing - i had that when i was pregnant and i had the same suspicion. what happened to your mom is MUCH less likely to happen today because of all the great new technology that doesnt miss a beat. If you have a good doctor he/she wouldve picked it up. I basically had a similar story with my pregnancy but size doesnt mean anything. the real clue-in would be EXTREME fatigue - constantly. like you wake up and brushing your teeth makes you tired. (have you been pregnant before? - you can compare that one to this one)
