I've only been working there a month, but I'm utterly miserable, hate my managers, and have found a better job. I hate it so much that I just want to quit now instead of giving two weeks notice. How do I go about quitting? Do I give them a letter or just tell them I'm leaving? Will they really require me to work two more weeks or is it usual in fast food for them to just let you go immediately? The thought of having to work there any more makes me sick!

Thanks for all the replies! I don't have another job per se, but I probably will soon. I'm an equestrian and have decided a job at a farm or stables is worth a shot. I plan on making a career out of horses anyway. I have emailed some people who are looking for help on their farms.

Is it really not a big deal just to call and say, "Hey, I'm leaving Chic-Fil-A. I've found someplace else" and that be it? My parents really think I should do the two week notice thing. They say it's the "Right thing" to do, but I am honestly so unhappy being there at all that it's not an attractive option.

I try to help my coworkers constantly, I'm very nice, I do what I'm told, but I'm still treated like a grub. I honestly feel like the biggest pariah on the planet when I'm at work. One of my managers hates me, I know it. NOTHING I do is right. I catch people giving me dirty looks constantly and I can't figure out why. Oh well. You can't please everybody.

Obviously you're a Chick-Fil-A employee. It's also obvious that you completely misunderstood my problem. I am NOT treated well at Chick-Fil-A. I don't doubt that the company is an honorable one, but my personal experiences have been bad. What I don't appreciate are self-righteous, hasty, and unnecessarily hateful twits calling me "ungrateful" when I've done my best every minute I'm at that job. Ungrateful? Oh, like fast food is the cream of the crop in job opportunities. If you want to hear people gush about doing God's work, then turn around and call someone a slut, if you want to be ostracized, if you like dealing with hateful customers, then by all means: apply to the Chick-Fil-A where I worked.

In closing, you need to quit jumping to conclusions.

you never HAVE to give two weeks notice. You can simply call and say you won't be coming bac. Turn in your uniform and any other company property. 2 weeks notice is a nice way to leave a job... you never know when you may have to go back, but I don't think you will need to worry about going back to that particular job. Good luck

Do something really bad that will make them fire you if you really don't want to wait two weeks to quit. I mean, don't do anything that will get you arrested or with a lawsuit, but make an outrage. Maybe spill numerous fried on the floor and commit many "accidents" on purpose. Perhaps spread a rumor that the managers are doing bad acts (don't spread illegal slander though). Or start shouting really loud that you are tired of your job (try not to disturb customers, though, because I don't really think they deserve that). Another option is to simply go to a higher restaurant authority, such as a regional director, and tell your concerns; perhaps he/she will sympathize and let you go right there. If that fails, though, then do some other means. All in all, however, maybe a restraining order from the restaurant is better, since it extremely destroys your chances of ever working there again.

You arent obligated to work anywhere you dont want to work. If the job is making you that miserable then just quit. After all, it is just a fast food job. That type of job shouldn't even go on your resume. Especially, if you say the management is acting like that. If it troubles you that much to work there, then your best bet is to stop working there now. Besides, you say you have another job, didn't you?

Look, I don't know where your head is at, but Chick-Fil-A's is a Christian-based company that believes that you should offer a superior product at a reasonable price, which in my experience is exactly what they do, so if you want to be an honorable employee, you had better offer this highly esteemed company an honorable 2-weeks notice as they so deserve for employing your ungrateful self. Sincerely, UC Steve

You're supposed to give a notice when you start looking for another job. Otherwise, get your start date, and tell your boss that you have another job that starts on that particular day. They will give you a good reference in the future if you do let them know what's going on so that they can fill in your position on the schedule.

Just don't show up to work or call them on the phone and tell them that you found a better job and you won't be coming back to work. Always worked for me!

Watch the movie Waiting and do everything the staff does there, I'm pretty sure you won't have your job after a few days, a week at the most.

if you've actually been hired at the new place... just walk out at the end of your next shift at Chic. The fast food industry is incredibly high turnover. They'll just find some other sucker.

if you already have another job, just don't go back to work. it's not like you have to add that job to your resume' and other employers will be able to ever find out that you just quit.

You just go in and quit. No one can make you work two more weeks. It would be nice if you did and if you don't then you can never use them as as reference, but no, they cannot make you work.
