I went camping just this last weekend. If you intend on staying the night, which most camping entails, you'll need a sleeping bag, a flashlight, matches, bug repellant and food and drink. Depending on how old you are, another must is alcohol. The best part of camping when the sun goes down and your friends gather around a fire--you can talk about the most useless subjects and the stress can just melt. If you are a girl and have your own tent, a guy or two may try and get in there with you...if you don't have your own tent, a guy or two will gladly offer to share theirs with you.

You want to make sure you research campgrounds first. Find one that has the resources you're looking for.....lake, firepits, bbq's, bathrooms, etc.....whatever that may be. If you're in an area with a lot of wild animals, you want to make sure they have some kind of fencing or control around the campsite so the animals don't come in and disturb you. Bring bug spray, lots of blankets, matches, a good tent that's big enough for all your stuff, a cooler (no food that will go bad), lots of water. You might want some kind of air mattress or padding to put down in the tent to sleep on cos trust me, the ground isn't all that comfortable. Flashlights, batteries, outdoor games, lawn chairs.

Camping is great fun.
You will need:
* Tent
* Sleeping Bag
* Cooking Oven (Optional)
* Pillow (Added benefit)
* Bug Spray
* Bottled Water
* Tooth Brush and Paste
* Toilet Paper
* Joggers/shoes
* Food
These are necessities to me when I go camping. Being in Australia, camping is wonderful in the Summer Months. We usually go to a dam and set up tents.
We also take a portable BBQ, to cook meat on and make salads etc.
Have fun!

Rent an RV if you can. If you can't, take a van or a station wagon with seats that fold down. Stay away from unpopulated areas in bear country.
For comfort while sleeping, place pine branches beneath the tent. I suggest doing a ground sweep to remove gravel and feel around with your hands for rocks. Take foamies or double up the sleeping bags. Two things I cannot stress enough: bring a tarp to cover the tent if there is any doubt about water leakage during a rainfall and bring along wool or thick cotton blankets.
Food: in bear country, no sweets, fresh dairy, fresh meat, or eggs. Try unsweetened granola and oats, dried fruit and vegetables. canned vegetables, potatoes, corn, dried salmon, nuts, canned beans and smoked oysters.

wondering what kind of camping you doing. At a campground? In the wild? Tent? camper?
I take my family to a well kept campground in the Poconos. They have a store with very reasonable prices and stock a lot. All of my perishable I buy where I camp and local stores. So supplies depend a lot on where and how you are camping.
Basic for me:
Cooler, small and large Stove, pots, tools. table cover
Tarp, tent, sleeping bag or air mattress with covers., rope
Lantern, flashlights
Pants, sneakers, shorts, underwear, shirts
fishing rod, cards
Where I camp, we have no problem with bugs?

I camp all the time. It is one of my most favourite past times.
Take:
-clean clothes with extra socks and an extra pair of foot ware
-Obvioulsy a tent and sleeping bag, and something to sleep on like a foamie
- bug spray
- bottled water or some way to purify water
-a pot to boil water, (can sit on an open flame and not melt any part of it)
-matches
-paper if you need it to start your fire (or fire starter)
-an axe to chop wood
- a pail to carry water
-food
-rope
-First Aid Kit (a must)
-If necessary a tarp to keep your camp/wood dry
Some helpful tips:
-Never sleep in the clothes you wore that day. Dirty clothes make you cold in the evenings.
-Never drink water unless it's been purified. Even if it come out of a pump.
-ALWAYS put food in a vehicle at night or up a tree away from your camp site and NEVER leave food out or garbage out. KEEP A CLEAN CAMP SITE TO KEEP PREDETORS AWAY.
-Never leave anything like toothpaste, dishsoap or sented things in your tent or where you sleep.
-Have fun and enjoy the beuty of nature. Camping is a great way to relax and have fun, but ALWAYS USE COMMON SENSE and be SAFE.

I love camping, can never get enough of it.
What you should bring.... bring a extra of everything (clothing), marsh mellows & hotdogs & soda, bandaids, sunscreen, portable stereo or radio, book for reading, carmera with tons of film, pair of running shoes and hiking boots, fishing rod, sketch book for drawing and making notes, something to keep bugs away and something for bug bites, extra cushions for sleeping bags, lightsticks, a flashlight, matches, tons more.
I always forget to bring something everytime I go.
