you can't....cold sores are a form of herpes......most of the population has some form, so don't freak out, which is a virus and lives in your body. It tends to lay dormant during low stress times but.....stress out....and out they pop.

I get them on the tip of my middle finger when things get REALLY bad in my life.

You should be able to feel when the actual sore is forming under your skin....go get meds then and start applying before the sore becomes visible. there are over the counter options....which work for me.

Actually you don't, cold sores are caused by a virus know as HSV it is part of the same family of viruses that cause chicken pox and genital herpes. This virus actually responds to stress both physical and psychological riding nerves to the mucus membranes on your lips or where ever and erupt.

While you are pretty much stuck with this virus for the rest of your life the best thing to work toward is to keep the number of outbreaks down. The best way to do this is to keep your immune system strong and finding ways to avoid or better deal with stress. Activities like exercise and eating right support a strong immune system and keep the stress level down.

There are some medications that are available in both topical and pill form but you have to speak to a physician to get those. Most of the stuff they sell over the counter doesn't work all that well and will do little more then keep the area moist.

Good Luck

As far as I know you can't. Coldsores are a form of herpes, and Herpes is a virus. They can't even cure the common cold yet, let alone any other type of virus.

You can't. You are infectious as long as you have a sore and the virus will be spread by contact, so wash your hands freuently and use a seperate towel, and don't kiss anyone while you have one. Remember to wash your hands before you sit down at the pc.
You'll probably have an outbreak when you are stressed and run down. Just use Zovirax at the first sign of tingling.

Impossible, they come from a virus you always have in your system. The best defense is a good immune system, since they only appear when your immune system is low. Have you tried Schizandra? It helped my immune system (I work with kids so I need a kick-a** immune system), and I don't think I have had any cold sores since I started on it. I did get one 36 hour cold last April, but I missed the whole flu season (a miracle in the childcare world). I didn't get a cold sore even with that cold though, and I used to get them all the time.

You could have herpes. IF you do, you will have them flare up every now and then. There is a drug for this, I don't remember the name but if you look up "herpes drug" you will likely find it. You may want to try "Blistex" that has an ingredient in it called ALANTOIN. It is VERY good for actually HEALING dry and chapped lips and is supposed to be good for cold-sores. Be sure you get the BLISTEX which is in a white cream form, usually in a squishable little tube. Not the stick kind. Some Blistex contains different ingredients than others.

You can't. If you have coldsores then you have herpes. You can take a drug like Valtrex to suppress outbreaks, but you can't do anything more than that.

I'd add that there is Herpes Simplex 1 & 2. 1 is most often associated with the oral form of the sore...the "cold sore". 2 refers to the sexually transmitted form. They are not always visible other than during an "outbreak" When not visible they evidently "hide" themselves quietly inside your body on a nerve root until they are triggered. You can contract or infect your partner with the STD even when there is no active outbreak/sore(s)

Im sorry to tell you that you cant....

Once you're a carrier of the germ that causes them (i think its something to do with herpes!) then coldsores will always recurr and you just have to deal with them as and when you get one! :-(

Not possible. It's a herpes virus. Once you got it, you got it and you can infect other people. Might want to keep that in mind.
