Many people incorrectly believe that just having anal intercourse will give you a disease like HIV/AIDS. The fact is, anal sex by itself is not what gives you an infectious disease. It's unprotected sex WITH AN INFECTED PERSON that makes intercourse risky, as far as HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's) are concerned. If you have unprotected anal sex with an uninfected person, you are at no risk whatsoever for HIV and other STD's. But, if you had unprotected anal sex with a person who is infected with HIV or other STD's, then you would be at high risk of infection. This is true whether you are the insertive partner (the "top"), or the receptive partner (the "bottom"). If there is any possibility at all that your partner may have HIV or another STD, I strongly encourage the use of condoms every time you have sex. STD's that you can get from anal sex include HIV, Hepatitis B, syphilis, Herpes, genital/anal warts, and others.
Besides STD's, anal sex can have other health concerns as well. There can be physical trauma to either partner during anal sex. This is because there is a lot of friction that occurs during this activity. The receptive partner (the "bottom") is at particular risk of physical trauma, especially as it relates to bleeding. One way of reducing (but not eliminating) the problems of physical trauma and bleeding during anal sex, is to use a lot of lubrication during anal sex. If either partner finds anal sex too painful or uncomfortable, they may choose not to engage in this activity.

Some people can also have physical reactions to semen during anal sex. For more information about this issue, see the question, "Anal Sex".

In summary, as long as both partners do not have any Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and as long as both partners do not have any other problems regarding anal sex (severe bleeding, pain etc.), anal sex is a safe option for consenting partners

Really interesting Question. My ex wife used to ask me to do that particular act to her.She seemed to prefer it to oral sex. However, that was before the aids epidemic, which U can get from all sex acts.Long before my ex had asked that, other women had asked for the same thing.maybe 10%.I recall the most informative thing i read, was in Playboy magazines ,emphasizing cleanliness ofboth parties ,organs, and the possibility of various deceases.Siphilis, gonorea, and various other bacteria infections were listed. So U must be sure that your partner is not carrying any decease.U also risk injury if your partner does not lubricate your rectum, and is not gentle .If he just rams his penis in,he could rip u a little and open a cut ,which could bleed. The upside of this act is that U cannot get pregnant from anal pleasure, which U may learn to like! Also ,if the act is done rite ,then your fellow, would be very pleased with u.and your sex life could become more varied. The best way to avoid injury and displeasure is to practice your self,or with you fellows help.with your man ,have him use his fingers to spread your hole slowly, open ,and let U relax your anal muscles.U must have a lubricant..Vaseline like.Alone, u could,Get a similar penis shaped object{lubricated}and shove it slowly in,while rubbing your clitoris. My ex semmed to prefer another method. She would slowly lower hersself onto her vibrator{like sitting},which was on a hard surface, and then ram herself up and down on it till she was ready.always rubbing and fingering her vagina ,also! The she would tell me to join in and enter her.The big issue af cleanliness was followed by us both.Never let him pu t his member into your mouth after this act, without washing. It could have bacteria, and also could not be a good taste to lick your own rectum..So be careful, and Make your fellow get tested.before U decide to do this act.

When the anal sphincter is forced open, almost microscopic abrasions occur... enabling germs to enter the body, and bloodstream. Enter then, the same diseases as vaginal sex. (possibly, but not a guarantee)

Injury and infection, primarily. It's certainly possible to do it without those things happening; you just have to be careful, go slow, use lots of lube, and don't let your partner take his penis out of your anus and put it directly into your vagina without washing it thoroughly.
