For both servers and home computing I'd say the Macintosh has the best answers. Professional computing with best performance, and the totally multimedia solutions and it is now based on Unix platform making itself like the best linux. The only thing Macintosh doesn't have is the gaming option.

The reason for the popularity of Microsoft Windows is that it has always focused on providing the proper services required for desktop computers and personal use with multimedia and the support required by small scale dumb terminals. Though, it’s always true that Windows and Macintosh, as they are commercial software has been maintained and developed in a much more organized way, but because of the popularity of Windows, Microsoft didn’t actually care enough to secure their system the way they should have. They ignored security and still been successful. Linux has chosen to be developed on UNIX, the Macintosh has switched its development based on UNIX; Microsoft has developed some systems called XENIX, another OS named Solaris is developed by Sun Microsystems inc. is based on UNIX, so it seems to be left with two basic platforms to develop the future OS, NT based Windows and UNIX based others. But NT based technologies has been proved to be very much insecure And it’s actually a fact that the philosophy behind NT system has been derived from UNIX, so it can be said that the future is going to be based on one general platform based operating system technology for desktop to large scale systems.

Hands down, the Macintosh. Mac OS X is far more advanced than anything I've used to date. Everything is so simple and elegant. OS X has so many capabilities. So many, in fact, you'd probably need to get a subscription to Macworld to learn it all. There's just so many nifty things about OS X, from the Dashboard to Spotlight. You'll enjoy an intuitive interface without the hassles of viruses and system hogging code. Sit down with a Mac for a week tell me you're not amazed. I was.

In addition, since Macs use Intel processors, you can now dual boot your Mac with Windows or run it parallel to OS X. This makes it the most versatile computer in the world. The only computer to run Windows XP and MacOS X without emulation. Networking and administration is a snap with OS X.

1. Mac OS. User friendly, easy to use OS. Virus free, and has great software.
2. Windows. Broadly used OS, meaning more software choices, and a good user interface.
3. Linux. Similiar to windows, but very few programs.

I like XP pro, a lot more secure for windows and I'm real comfortable with it. Windows works well with almost any program and is the number 1 OS still. More programs are made for it also.
