Recently I've noticed I'm not very fond of anime. I've been less willing to try new titles and the current titles keep dwindling as they finish. I want to try something new and not mainstream (I've tried most of those)

Can anyone reccomend a good manga or anime that I might be willing to try?

I want to try a non-mainstream anime. I've read and watched FMA, I've tried and failed to get into FLCL, and most of all, I love going to my local anime con dressed in cosplay. I want to try something that isn't all the rave. BTW, I won't watch Anime by Viz or read manga by Del Rey. Both are poor in quality and I'd rather break the rules than read/watch those.

And this is for only people who still want to nurture their inner child, if you want to say "Give it up" I won't listen and you're wasting your time.

Another update to someone I couldn't contact. I absolutely despise Naruto and all it's unworthy hype. I get sick of seein 500 costumes of Naruto and the other characters each in varying degrees of crappiness. I am mad at a friend for becoming one of them (Partially because her Yuna costumes from the past two years rocked as well as the Sora one from before). Like I said, do not reccomend "Mainstream" anime to me. By that, I meant ones shown on Television regularly, almost all anime by Viz, and the manga they try to push out with it, a lot of FUNimation's works, and a fair deal of ADV and Tokyopop as well.

Ones I am pursuing: Fushigi Yuugi GK, Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter X Hunter, and Fruits Basket.

Ones I don't like: Naruto, One Piece, Shaman King, Any Yugioh, Inuyasha's translations here, and any other manga/anime VIZ spotlights other than the ones I'm pursuing above.

Thank you.

Hey try out Hayao Miyazaki movies. They are to die for!! I love them so much. They leave me so ... i don't know what the word is for it..
"Whisper of the Heart" "princess monoke" and "Nausicaa Valley of the Wind"

You seem to be the kind who is into deep stories, well for sure these movies are deep and beautiful.
And it would help if you told us teh kind of genre you like. I mean if you like action and at the same time a good story line, Samurai Champloo is the show to go for. I also like Wolf's Rain. You have to check these anime out.

I'm not really sure if your interest lies more in shonen or shojo works so I thought I would just throw out some that are a bit different. Some stuff that, as you said, isn't all that mainstream in my opinion (although some are fairly popular I still think if you haven't tried them yet you might give them a whirl, who knows you might be pleasantly surprised. I have been by a couple of these).

Manga wise how about:

--from Tokyopop

Tarot Cafe
Ark Angels
Alichino
Rozen Maiden
Paradise Kiss
The Demon Ororon
Vampire Game
Yubisaki Milk Tea
Pet Shop of Horrors
Rising Stars of Manga Editions

--From ADV manga
Chrono Crusade
Peacemaker Kurogane
Gunslinger Girl
Cromartie High School

--From Dark Horse
Blade of the Immortal

--From Digital Manga Publishing (DMP)
Berserk
Hellsing
Cafe Kichijouji de
The Ring
Trigun
Twilight of the Dark Master
Antique Bakery

I know you don't like Viz anime but you might try some of their manga anyway. I like a couple of their series.

Descendents of Darkness*
Alice 19th*
Godchild
Socrates in Love
D. Gray Man*
Death Note*
(the series marked with * are some of the ones that I like best and are a bit different, especially D. Gray Man and Death Note)

As for anime:

GunxSword
Karas
The Place Promised in our Early Days (movie)
Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok
Paranoia Agent
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Peacemaker Kurogane
Argentosoma
Many of the above mentioned manga have been released as anime too

I really don't know what will be to your taste and if any of these series includes content that you find offensive I apologize. That was not my intention and I personally find many of these interesting. I tried not to include anything with too much of a "eeww" factor. I hope this helps you! There's got to be more anime for you to try out there, you just haven't found it yet. You will don't worry.

I can't give you any specific suggestions since everyone's taste varies, but I can tell you to keep looking for and trying out new stuff. Take recommendations off fan forums, review sites, or just word-of-mouth. You may have to sift through a lot of bad stuff before you get to something you like, but that's just par for the course. There's a little thing called Sturgeon's Law (named after and derived from a quote by sci-fi author Theodore Sturgeon) that goes "90% of everything is crap". And since anime is such a big deal in Japan, the large volume of product also corresponds to a nearly as large volume of crappy product. But its that 10%, the cream of the crop, that makes the whole thing worthwhile.

Try this website:

http://www.animesuki.com/series.php
These are all unlicesensed and unreleased in the US.

Long list of different things I'm sure you'll find someting for you.

I went through a little slump myself where I wasn't interested. Between this site, and going to an anime convention, my intrests peaked again. If you take a break for awhile, it's alright. Stick with what you already know you like if finding new stuff doesn't help.

Also, try this site, no episodes, but lots of other stuff.

Good Luck

You should try watching One Piece. It has such a good story i dont think that it will be ending too soon. PLus Eureka Seven is also a pretty good one to watch.

These things are for children. I gave all that up when I was a freshman in high school and got a real life. Good luck though.

Samurai Champloo. If it isn't different form anything else you have seen, the Earth will explode. Gungrave is a good choice too.
