The need for anti-graviational technology is not nearly as pressing as the need for alternative fuels. Not to mention that the technology for alternative feuls is much more acheivable and affordable than reseach into antgravitation!

Necessity is the mother of invention, and so long as new fuels are more desirable than hovercrafts, then that is what engineers are gonna be working on.

If you want your hovercraft...why dont you work on it yourself?

Your so right...I know we were promised them in 2000, back in 1970, Hek we havent even built house on the moon. I think the reason the hover car hasnt been created is because of wieght standard, every one must be a certain wieght in order for them to come about, unless you would have low flyers, on the ground you dont have to worry about all that, you have shock absorbers and all sorts of things to prevent you from driving on you axle, but in a hover craft not so much, just the ground below

I know fuel cells will be the closes thing we get to hovercraft, because GM early consept car, that ran on hydrogen looked like a space shuttle, there was no mirrors, the stering wheel was different, completely alien to cars today, but then again that was a few years back, where is my hydrogen owered car... and you could change the body of the viechcle, I think it was called the skateboard, and it runs completely on water, so the next step above this is the hovercraft

Necessity is the mother of invention. So is practicality. If you want it so bad, why don't you go build one? Don't wait around for smarter people to invent your toys. Be a big boy. Make them yourself. Go buy a hydroquad.
