do you think that age of consent laws are outdated? in recent months i have seen at least 3 court cases in my area where 18 to 30 yearold men.,... and one woman in one case.... were seduced by underage persons (the 'victims' admit the sex was consentual) but still get charged with crimes off statuatory rape and so forth because the kids' parents find out and get mad. what do you think? isnt age of consent in some countries like aged 14? doesnt that make more sense?

hey don't accuse me of being a sick pervert... that is wrong and i dont think everyone considers sex between an 18 year old and a 14 year old child sex....

one most recent case i am thinking of is a 20 something year old guy getting in trouble becz a girl of 14 lied and said she was 18 when he asked her... seems to me here that they are both kind of at fault

They are adults. adults should know better than to be "seduced" by an underage child. They werent seduced they did it willingly. And does a 14yo know how to seduce anything but a can of soda?

I'm sorry, but I have to grudgingly agree on this one. I too have seen cases where a kid sneaks into a bar, lies about age, and hooks up with someone over 21 that later gets in trouble because parents or friends find out.

I bet this happens with teen girls and men more than you think. Besides, have you seen the way that girls dress nowadays?? Parents are letting their daughters dress like prostitutes. I swear, my mother would have slapped either of my sisters if they had dresssed up the way that MOST TEENAGE GIRLS now dress up for school!

There is a difference between "child sex" and a horny underage teen lying to a 23-year-old (or whatever) adult (that is barely even an adult) to get sex.

I believe that child molesters should be punished to the full extent of the law. In fact, my state just passed a law that allows the death penalty for repeat molesters and I totally support it. I don't think that this question is about "child sex," though.

Here's the thing: if an 23-year-old man is having sex with a 14-year-old girl, but he thinks she is 18, that should be an exception. If he keeps doing it after he finds out her real age, then maybe we should look at probation or something. The bottom line is - mature or not - the sex usually starts out consentual and if that's the case then there is shared responsibility. You shouldn't let your kids out of the house alone if you don't think they can make mature sexual decisions.

I do not think age of consent needs to be changed, but I think the enforcement of statuatory rape laws and other sex crime laws needs to be more logical.

the decision making abilities of a person arent completely developed at 16 or 18,, even so ,,,saying a person has a choice in a sexual relationship with an older man or woman isnt even an excuse they cant seduce someone mature and with any common sense ,,,so thats not an issue,, and if a child of 14 and a child of 14 have sex its like they are together in it ,,but an 18 or 30 year old has skill and knowledge to overcome the abilities of a child to defend themselves against an older persons arguments and inducements ,,,so we protect children against asaults of this type until they are 18 ,,,why do you seek to have a relationship with a child,,, what you have so much in common,, no your just sick,, if you do it an olde parent

It makes absolutely no sense at all. As it is now, the age of stupidity is hitting rock bottom.. I suppose the next thing to do is make rape legal. This whole proposal is ridiculous and moronic.

Do you mean that you would like people to reach the age of stupidity at a younger age??

In Japan, the age of consent is 12.

Yet, there is less violent crime over there.
