It's short for emotional (aka whiny) as in emo-kid or emo music. You know, people who whine about how life's not fair and OMG they shouldn't have to get a job and support themselves and if they do why can't they start as president of the company instead of in the mailroom??????????????????????? Whhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

It is short for emotional as the previous post said. Usually also goes along with goth, people dressing in dark clothing, guys who actually have feeling and black styled clothes.
