Because they want something else to blame Bush for and to gripe about.

It's a convenient way to play the race card, to paint Republicans as anti-black. After all, without Katrina, Democrats have a hard time making the racist label stick when you consider that blacks (and Hispanics, for that matter) hold higher government positions in a Republican administration than they ever have in a Democratic one.
It's pretty much the same people working at FEMA that were there under Clinton, but they conveniently overlook that. They also conveniently overlook the fact that the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana, both Democrats, hardly did anything either, and they were much closer to the situation.
Olderandwiser: I'm assuming you're referring to my answer. Read it again: I said the PEOPLE who work there, not the HEADS. Are you trying to tell me that because Bush put a new person in charge, that everyone else forgot how to do their job? And again, what exactly did the (Democratic) city and state governments do to improve their own situation? You don't seem to address that, yet you want to blame that on Bush too. I guess I should see the pattern by now.

I wasn't going to answer this but I saw one answer and decided I had to. GWB appointed both of the last two heads of FEMA not Clinton. I wish that all of the neocons would stop blaming Georges ineptitude on Clinton. He made his own errors. Now is GWB turn and he's making some lulu's. We were a day late and a dollar short in New Orleans and all of the gulf cities that were hit. But the worst of it was that the government was told 4 yrs ago that the levees would not hold. They knew this and didn't do anything because the people who would be affected were poor. Not Black not White just POOR. This government cares little about most of us and even less about the poor. Sorry, God did not resign and put GWB in charge, contrary to the beliefs of the neocons!!!

that's idiotic stuff like this question that make many politicians worry to tell the fact. by way of fact advantageous by way of fact the sunlight will upward push some Liberal will come alongside and blow each thing out of share. The mayor might desire to have been first to act. he's a Democrat i think. Then the Governor might desire to have asked help. She grew to become into additionally a Democrat i think. and that i've got yet to pay attention the two of them come out and say they tousled. So i assume then that makes Democrats racist and uncaring of the unfavourable and pets precise? Do those Democrats experience undesirable? You do understand that New Orleans wasn't the only place devastated by employing Katrina precise? i ask your self why it quite is which you Liberals don't have something to declare approximately the different factors that have been hit? i'm happy President Bush had the braveness to be straightforward and admit he might have executed a extra helpful pastime with regard to typhoon Katrina.

Well first, look at the way blacks see Bush. He wouldn't be in office if the thousands of votes that blacks cast weren't thrown out by his brother. Then while in office, he's done jack to help out the black community. Then there is the slow response to Katrina that was unforgivable and I think that either no one cared to do anything while people (who just happened to coincidentally be mostly poor black) died of thirst and exhaustion and disease or he is just so incompetent that he wasn't able to do anything about it. Which is it? Is there some excuse? Were the helicopters all in the shop that day? I'll bet if it were people that had contributed to Bush's compaign that he would have had them drinking fresh bottled water and eating t bone steaks by dinner time.

New Orleans Governor was slow to respond to this tragedy and so was the Mayor so the blame must begin here as they are responsible for the state and the city aren't they? Jeb Bush done a good job for the state of Florida when they had their problem didn't he? New Orleans failed to prepare for this years ago as they knew they were in a Delta and below sea level but failed to heed the warnings! There were also a lot of white people who suffered in New Orleans but it seems like the race card always gets thrown in the ring.

How naive you are. With the high level of racism in the USA, you actually believe the government is any different. Do you really think that the government would have moved so slowly if it had been a majority of white people? Take a look at history, it is quite clear what the truth is.

People think this simply because when other major hurricanes broke out and caused a significant amount of damage, the US government was there in full force with plenty of relief supplies. There is really no other explanation as to why the government was slow to respond.

The reason the gov. was so slow was because the mayor wanted to handle things himself. He actually sent many emergency vehicles away that could have help. Ironically he has been re-elected. Go figure.
