dog, they smell less and dont get hair all over the place. and cats are selfish, they only play when they want to play. and who wants to play with such a lame animal? lets see the facts:
1. cats sh!t smells and carries a deadly virus
2. Dogs have endless amounts of energy and will chase the ball till they have a mental breakdown
3. cats shed alot and if they dont like you they will let you know with their razor sharp claws
4. cats will play with you when they feel like it if they arent too busy sleeping or licking themselves
5. dogs will bark when an intruder is approaching and will defend your home and you with their life while the cat is sleeping in the window sill
6. dogs are good with young children (some)
7. cats cant drag you out of a house on fire (many dogs have done this in the past, how many cats ask you?... 0)
8. cats will keep rodents away (one of the good things they do)
9. cats are cheap (you can find them all the time in the paper for free)
10. puppies are the easiest way to attract women
11. a guy holding a kitten looks pretty fruity
12. seeing catfights is entertaining i do admit
13. cats can outrun dogs and usually live to be older than dirt
i dont see the point of going on anymore... in my opinion i believe dogs are the better pet, although dogs can be quite expensive (my border collie cost me $850) i still think they are way worth it.

Dog's are more protective, but can require more work. Both shed, both eat, both can be affectionate. A cat can use a box inside and can stay alone with an adequate food supply overnight. A dog might tear things apart while you are gone. Then again so could a young cat. A dog would stay in a fence. A cat would not necessarily. Dogs maybe travel better. Depends on your situation. I have had both. The cat was less work, but our dog once saved our life. Loved them both.

Depends on what kind of pet you are looking for. Just to have a low-maintenace animal around the house, go for a cat. But if you want a companion, go for a dog

if you want an outgoing friendly pet go for the dogs because most cats are mean and vicious and only get along with people that are around them the most

Depends...... will children be around the pet? Will anyone be home during the day to take care of the pet? What are the living arrangements -- yard, no yard, small apartment, large house, etc., etc. Depends on a lot. I personally have a rabbit and she is absolutely wonderful - potty trained, has the run of the house, makes no noise. etc.

i think it's based on where you live and your level of commitment in a pet, dogs are a lot more work than a cat
