It's called the attitude of entitlement, where some people feel like something is owed to them, regardless of the fact that they've done nothing to earn it. Eventually this overblown sense of entitlement leads the people to believe they are insulated against such things as racism, immorality, and a need for common sense and decency. In fact they are usually the most callous racists, immoral people, and clueless morons out there.

First off, anyone can be racist. Not just whites. I know a Hispanic and another African-American who is racist. The problem whites have is that they have a long history of being racist and using that belief to dominate others. Slavery may have ended over 160 years ago but Jim Crow still existed until just 50 years ago as was already said. White supremacy is still alive and well and blacks still have a hard time getting around that in the US even in 2006. Before you discuss something you obviously know less than nothing about get educated on the subject. Go out and talk to African-Americans and find out.

Seems like you aren't really searching for an answer. If so, it doesn't appear you are searching for an answer to help the problem, rather you are fueling the situation by posting "get over it". Think of racism as a problem such as physical or sexual abuse (which it was in a lot f ways). Would you tell a woman who was raped, or a child who was sexually abused by a parent to simply "get over it". Racism is much more complex than that. My mother is 49 yrs old. Just think ,when she was only 5 years old the great civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered. We are not so far removed from segregation, lynchings, and other forms of mistreatment toward blacks. Racism is racism no matter who does it. Whether it is done by the majority or minority. In terms of "entitlement" it sounds like that particular person feels that blacks should not be able to voice their opinions or grievances with mistreatment. Rather, they should just shut up. When blacks say something or make comments it can at times be off colored, due to past mistreatment and hearing stories involving race by grandparents and great-grandparents. When whites say things involving color it is often asked with an attitude or resentment toward blacks. Sort of like this question :)

Because when blacks say it it has no power. BTW slavery and oppression is not the same you can be a slave and not be oppress. Slavery ended but oppression never eneded, it was less than 40 years ago that some blacks could not vote. Remember if anything the the law can end slavery but it can't ended hate, racism and the law supported oppression with segregation 100 years after slavery.

Yes, it is racism in its truest sense, and you know what? It is wrong! An inappropriate question will always be just that--an inappropriate question! Black, white, or brown, I feel that some things are just meant to go unmentioned. (In this case, rude, unjustifiable, racist comments/questions.)

And to answer your original question, I think that most people--mainly minorities--are "allowed" to ask such questions simply because of past indiscretions committed by Whites. (In other words: "your people screwed my people, therefore, I should be allowed some 'perks' in order to make up for their pain.") Many of my fellow minorities may disagree with me, but our ancestors being enslaved does not give us the right to be rude. **Note: The previously made statement does not excuse the Majority for behaving in the same manner.**

One more thing...whereas I do feel that some Black people need to stop using slavery as a crutch, the fact that you're suggested that we "get over it" is highly insulting to me. Slavery did occur long ago, but as Black people we must learn from it and carry its history throughout our lives (as well as our hearts). And I'm not suggesting that we concentrate solely on the pain and brutality of it all; instead, we must always remember what our ancestors have done to help us get where we are today. That may not mean anything to you, and I guess I wouldn't expect you to understand, but what you should understand is that slavery is something that no one can "get over."

First of all don't say get over it. Cause you obviously don't have to deal with everyday issues that blacks deal with. If a black person says something to offend a white person than he/she is wrong just like a white person would be wrong. Stop asking questions about blacks. Don't you have any black friends? Go chill with one of them and ask them all the stupid questions you've been asking on yahoo. See how well that works out.

Yeah there is reverse racism especially where hatred and vilolence is. If a gang of blacks beat up a white kid because he is white, that's racism and I don't care to hear that it does not count because he isn't a minority. I know if a black man uses derogatory remarks about me or my family, I will not let him get away with it. Respect is earned where I come from.

I don't see anything wrong with being white. I'm sure glad that I,m. There really isn't anything any other race can say to me about being white that can hurt my feelings.
I do agree with your question. I really believe people should be respectful of others. I really don't see any solution to the problem of racism. It practicually exist everywhere.
