Execution by the guillotine may not be as painless as people think. Since the blade cuts so quickly through the brain stem, blood is still circulating through the brain, keeping you conscious and alive for a few seconds. This is also why many executioners would turn the detached head of the executed towards their mangled bodies, to shock them. There are many anecdotes that suggest that consciousness still persists for a little while after the head is detached. That alone is horrific. Regardless, I believe I'd take a few seconds of suffering compared to full minutes of pain.

I would suspect that drowning is a horrible way to die, perhaps among the most horrible as your body systems are intact, but you are unable to intake oxygen. The body's natural reflex would be to try breathing faster and harder, with you heart racing to pump what little oxygen remains in your system throughout the body. And you get the feeling of oxygen deprivation all over the body which maintaining a certain level of consciousness. Even throughout the process, the cells essentually fight to stay alive, even through every single one of them is building up waste products such as CO2 that they can no longer rid themselves of. And your nervous system gets to feel every agonising moment until the brain no longer has the oxygen to continue functioning properly.
Given that, the guillotine seems almost humane. I suppose that I would select that between the two.

I understand that after your head falls
from the guillotine blade
it may still be conscious
for up to a full minute!!!!
That would be a MUCH more intriguing possibility than just passing out from breathing in a bunch of water.

Oh definitely la Guillotine. Anything were my wrists are bound behind me would get me excited. Perhaps I may journey to my doom as Marie Antoinette did, hand bound the whole way to la Guillotine. Plus having my neck in the lunette just drives me wild. Delicious, darling.

Most people don't realize that when you drown you are actually choking to death. That is a slow process. I would much rather have my head chopped off by guillotine.

Drowning. I hear it is one of the more painless ways to die. Also its been documented that sometimes the head stays alive for up to 30 seconds.

how do u know its painless, dont you know there is truth to the stories about people getting there head lopped off and then being able to see their body for a few seconds severed from the head, it happens so fast, ur brain sometimes hasn't registered what happened yet........however drowning is the same as being smothering and you are aware of every second.

Guillotine because I have frequent unbearable painful migraines and I am always saying "if only I could get my head cut off."
