You have to remember it and take extra effort to do your warm ups. Is hip hop your forte? If so, continue, if not you have to change your theme. Where is your talent in dancing? Jazz, ballet, contemporary or hip hop. Make a short skit like doing an MTV stuff that will be cool. Yes singers or rappers are a plus factor. Don't forget your costume or clothes and some props for the skit. Have a good music and some back up dancers too. Hope I helped you.

I say write down the steps you come up with and then practice, practice, practice. If you mess up at the show, don't worry, or stop in the middle, just make it up as you go along. My friend dances competitively and made up half of her solo and still got a high gold at competition!

first of all, coreograph by sections. if the song has obvious sections make up stuff that fits the music there. memorize one section at a time using accumulation. accumulation: do the first step and add one at a time. every time you add on a step, go back to step one.
example: 1. split jump 1. split jump 1. split jump
2. pique turn 2. pique turn
3. back roll
