Johnny Depp has openly admitted that he based Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards, and wouldn't sign on to do the next two installments unless Keith Richards came on board to play his father.

He is joining the cast, according to Yahoo! news. I wasn't aware of a debate, but I suppose it would be because it was a very popular movie and people are worried if the third installment (or the second for that matter) will be equally as good.

I hope he's on I love Keith he's a great guitarist and from what I've read if he does join the cast its just for a small cameo role

I don't know about much of a debate around it, but it is definitely true. They wanted him to do both 2 and 3 since they were being filmed simultaniously, but it's been confirmed he isn't in part 2 but will be in the third movie.

Because Capt. Jack is partially based on Keef and he's a friend of Johnny Depp. I think that casting KR as Capt. Jack's father is too, too perfect. Yo ho!
