I've been thinking, why is it that in most anime shows the person with blue hair is always the smartest person on the show
e.g.
Sailor Mercury - Sailor Moon
Cure White - Pretty Cure
Sylia Stingray - Bubblegum Crisis / Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 / Bubblegum Crash

I remember when in one of my how-to-draw manga books, it mentioned different traits for different haircolors and styles. It actually said that blue was more of a color used in mysterious. You used some fine examples, but I can think of an anime where the blue-haired character was not the smartest.

In a tribute defying the dumb blonde stereotype, the smartest of the Magic Knights was Fuu, the blonde who got a guy first. It's also the only one where the romance is clearly two sided. Umi never noticed Ascot's signals and Hikaru is Naive and doesn't quite understand the concept of romance*Walks off muttering about demanding canon to change*

Well, blue is kind of an intelligent color all around. And some people may remember in the first season of Power Rangers(the only good one) the Blue Ranger was the smartest guy.

Imagine my surprise at finding an article dedicated to the intricacies of anime hair. There seems to be varying reasons for the many hair colors besides just trying to make the characters look unique when compared to the others. It's an interesting read.

I must get back to you on this but I think it's just a conincident that all the smart characters have blue hair. In the anime do-rei-mi, the character with blue hair is the crazy stupid person.

Also in anime, white hair usually = evil person

This may be because white is the color of mourning or death in that part of the world.

Interesting point. It could have something to do with the Japanese mindset. Or it could have something to do with the American mindset of the producers who pick shows to buy the rights to and convert into English-language anime...
