There are over the counter dyes for clothes, but I don't know if it would work for shoes. If you want it done properly, I would suggest sending it to a professional cobbler.

There are many dye pens (like markers) in the fabric stores or in craft stores such as Joann's etc., Michaels, Catan's. These work great and don't soften the box of the shoe. After dying, you can just go over them with a damp sponge. We just did a pair in black a short time ago.

This would be preferable over paint, which might make the shoes a bit slippery on the under side. It should not bleed through.

Whatever you decide to use make sure that only your tights and no part of your costume touch them b/c the fabric on the pointe shoes will most likely bleed if you dye them your self. Be prepared to have red feet for a while too.
I'm sure it won't be the last time you have part of a costume stay with you for a while.

merely flow to Ebay and purchase some OR in case you do not opt to spend any money flow to a random ballet college and they are going to many times have a field of used ballet shoes that are lifeless and won't be able for use for dancing anymore, therefore they are valueless, and they'd be happy to eliminate the shoes

lol. Use a red Sharpie or EXPO marker and get to work! Girls at my studio had to have their pointe shoes red and black too, and that's what they used. I don't recommend dyes over the counter, as they weren't made for pointe shoes and the water will ruin the box.

well if theyre your everyday pointe shoes, dont dye them! look online at just regular pointe shoes makers, and them sell red ones for the same price as pink ones. you can also first test it out on a cheap or used pair.

For this I would suggest the spray-on fabric dye available from Simply Spray. They carry it at Michaels or on line at www.simplyspray.com. Masking tape carefully over the part that you don't want to be black.

My friend who used to work for a florist also suggested a floral spray paint that will stick to anything. I don't know the name of it, but you could inquire at your local florist if you want to find it.

good luck!

what i would do b/c i had to dye mine black is i look online w/ the russian companys they make lots of different colors but then you would have to break them in and all, so the best bet is red spray paint and then pain it over w/ a glossly glue. so it would stay.

I've heard floral spray is the best because it dries quickly and isn't too messy. It also doesn't damage the inside of the shoe.

You can use spray paints. It's easy and the results are good. Before painting wash it first, so that there will be no build ups when you painted them. And let it dry completely. Hope I helped you.
