Unlike most people, I'll treat your question seriously.
I've lived in Kansas all my life. Specifically Wichita, KS.
Shopping: I love the mom and pop places you can find. There's also the joy of finding a place with a good person who runs it. Granted not everything under the sun can be found in Kansas, but whatever can't be found locally can always be brought in via the internet. There's a few shopping malls. The real gems are those stores who defy reason and stay open with a special product or clientelle -- teddy bear shops, Kansas-grown items, etc.
Food: No limit. Just about any type of food can be found. There may only be a couple of those restaurants but if you want it, you can probably find it. I tend to think of most native Kansans as pretty much simple fare folk. A good steak. A good hamburger. Heck, even a good buffalo burger.
Entertainment: Um. Lots of it? Whatever you want? Nightlife galore even in a city of only a half a million. Local bands. National bands do come by but it's usually on a weeknight. Lots of sports. Lots of theaters -- movie and stage. If you're bored here, it's your fault.
Schools: Private and public. Wichita was once called the Athens of the Midwest because it hosted so many colleges. Now it's like that again. Wichita State, Friends University, and Newman University are the main campuses but there's lots of other smaller colleges with branch campuses here, too.
Work: There's no such thing as 9 to 5 in the midwest. It's more likely 8 to 5. You work 8 hours but the hour for lunch is your time. A lot of national companies have had roots in Wichita -- Pizza Hut, Boeing, Cessna, etc. It's known as the Air Capital so the best paying jobs tend to be in those industries. However, it's not so much about earning the most money. It's what you want and what you want to do. People who earn a lot of money tend to spend a lot of money. Those with less get by with spending less.
As for the life in the midwest without beaches or oceans -- well, there are a lot of lakes, rivers, and ponds. Nothing quite as relaxing with a fishing pole, bait, and a slow summer afternoon at a watering hole.

Minnesota born and raised. You will be surprized to find out that we have all modern conveniences out here in the boon docks. Our water front property is lakes and rivers and a heck of a lot less crowded and cheaper than on the coasts.

The "Land of Enchantment" isn't so bad, actually it's really good, where else could you travel 45min. in any direction and go from one extreme to another. example, arid to semi-tropical, desert to mountains.
We're no different than anyone else, we have shopping malls, green chili, red chili, rap, rock, pop, classical, hip hop, country western, and go to work just like you.
