I own a 2002 Toyota Caldina, when the air condition is on i can smell petrol inside the car. If i cut the out the air conditioning and the fan is running the smell of gas is more. What could be the problem.

Sounds like you may have a leak in the delivery line to the injector pump or possibly a loose injector. If you have the means to inspect it yourself, good. (check ground under car for damp/wet spots, open the hood and check the area compared to spots on ground, if none check top of the engine for damp/wet spots,verify type of liquid. If none, start engine and check lines to look for seepage, leaks.)

First, DON"T SMOKE. Second, either a leak in the fuel delivery system or the EVAP emission controle system

That is a serious dangerous problem. And an engine fire waiting for a place to happen.
