You need more memory. 128 ram is about the minimum to run XP. I have a P4 with 512 ram which is about 5 1/2 years old and it is even too slow to run the graphics needed for today's webpages. 1gb ram is the minimum today. Check on ebay or craigslist as someone is always updating their computer and needs to get rid of old memory.

Downlowd firefox as your browser and that will help a bit at least.

I also have a p3 laptop. I run it with 256 meg, and it does most jobs just fine. However, I run windows 2000, because it would not have enough memory. I would suggest that you either have the memory upgraded to 512, or, if you have a chronic fear of playing with computers, buy yourself a new one. A decent computer is under 600 dollars these days.

Windows XP pro needs at least 256 meg of memory. That's easy to fix\add more memory. To get the most speed add at least a stick of 512 memory.Your P.C. uses sdram or rambus, check which one by going to My computer click properties you should see window xp page [your name \system\cpu\memory\and or service pack 1 or 2 if u have been upgradeing your OS[windowsxp] If you add memory check which slot to use [some motherbroads are different and turn off power\unplug from wall socket]make sure you are grounded\no static discharge.now push the stick in gently but firmly until the dog ears close.[2 little clips that hold and seat the memory than plug in boot up and have fun,John

I'd say its not enough ram. I'd recommend at least 256 MB, but suggest 512 MB for Windows XP.

If you plan on keeping the machine, and think you'll eventually will upgrade to Windows Vista(the next Windows OS), then I'd suggest getting 1 GB now.

if it has been on the web it is probably full of adware and spyware. download http://www.spybot.com/ to clean all that off of it.
