Soccer before football but they were not too far apart. The first football game was played in 1869. The first soccer game was played in 1863. Only a 6 year difference. I think that's because Soccer and Football have many similarities and were thought up by people who already played one of the sports.

Soccer, Football is just better.
American football DID NOT come from Rubgy. STOP that myth. It actually evolved out of a soccer game. A player in college got really upset picked up the ball and ran and threw it into the net. That is basically the start.

Actually football came first (soccer ) we are the only country that calls soccer ,soccer the rest of the world knows soccer as football , hope I did not confuse anybody .
