Torchy the Battery Boy was my favourite as a child. I now have the whole series on a box set. It's very twee now and my 5 year old nephew far prefers the new Doctor Who! Torchy was the brainchild of Roberta Leigh, who went on to make "Space Patrol" which was a superb space puppet series in the early sixties (have the box set of that too!). Twizzle came before Torchy and was an early Roberta Leigh in conjunction with one Gerry Anderson on Thunderbirds fame. Most episodes of Twizzle have not survived but the first one is a bonus on the above-mentioned Space Patrol box set. Another bonus on that set is an episode of "Sarah and Hoppity" which came after both Torchy and Twizzle. These were all ITV programmes.

The woodentops were of course, part of the BBC's "watch with mother" series. One programme each afternoon during the week. The others were Bill & Ben, Rag Tag & Bobtail, Andy Pandy, and Picture Book. These have been available on video and DVD for a while now.

Happy nostalgia.

I can just remember the woodentops, I liked Pootle best. My Dad used to watch Torchy, we think that it was remade into "Jamie and his magic Torch"
