I currently live in a rough area of town. I don't want to go and explain the problem to the children or their parents, as there is a high probability the car will end up being vandalised as a result. Please help !

A couple ideas--
Move
Get one of those canvas covers and cover your car.
Build a garage and park the car in there- don't fill the garage with junk, like my dad has done..
Build a reputation for being a mean old man... frighten the kids into respecting your stuff.

If you have a garage, please keep your car in the garage. If you don't have a garage, try putting a tarp over your car. I don't know if that will work to keep the children off your car, but it will sure cut down on damages to your car.
Of course, the best thing to do is to move as soon as you are able.

Park it as close to a source of light as you can and also next to the building you live in.... if they know that someone can easily see them, they may choose to move along. Of course - a good (sensetive) car alarm might also help.

Please talk to the parents and children nicely, but still set up a video recorder just in case some of them want to be hard headed because you already know their will be some and you having that video camera recording they will be caught red handed. And you will win in court.

I guess you don't have a garage. If you do clean it out like it's judgement day and park that car in there. Otherwise just put little spike's on the car... or move....

Car alarm with motion sensor with auto reset should do the trick. Not much $$ involved.

Keep it simple..Just tell them "GET OFF MY CAR!"
Don't threaten them or use cuss words.
