As a kid, I was a huge fan of "Choose your Own Adventure" book series. Now, I've discovered Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic I and II. Player's choices affect the adventure and plot. I love them, but cannot afford a $2000 new PC just to play others. Does anyone have any suggestions for an Xbox or PS2 game along this vein?

The mother of all open-ended RPGs for the original Xbox is Morrowind. I've had that game for over 3 years and I'm STILL not finished with it. If you're going to buy it, make sure you get the Game of the Year edition, which has two great expansions included.

Fable is another good choice (Xbox). It's very linear and pretty short but it's an enjoyable game. If you're going to give it a try, make sure you pick up Fable: The Lost Chapters instead of the original. It has about an hour's worth of extra playing time.

Way of the Samurai (PS2), which another poster suggested, is another good series, but those games are pretty obscure. You should be able to find the original if you look, but the second game is much harder to find (and maybe not quite as good as the original).

If you have an older PC, you might enjoy the original Deus Ex. It's incredibly open-ended and easily one of the best games I've ever played.

You can try Knights of the Old Republic II and Jedi Academy I and Jedi Academy II:Outcast. I also think that there is supposed to be a new game coming out later this year where the main character is supposed to be an apprentice to Darth Vader. To some extent Fable is good and I really like the Suikoden series.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent isn't in the same genre, but it will have game altering actions included in it. It won't be out for a while though.

Fable's pretty good I hear, or another one for PS2 Called "Way of the Samurai" is pretty fun. You can always go MMORPG.
