All you have to do is connect a coax wire from the receiver where it says "out to TV" to the VCR "in". The connect another coax wire from VCR "out" to the TV. To record a program on your VCR, put the VCR on the channel your TV needs to be to watch satellite, 3 or 4, th eput ypour reciever on whatever channel you want to record.

Assuming you have either DirecTV or Dish Network Receivers.
Assuming connections are made via Coaxial cable (old style cable connections, not RCA connections (3 cables colored red, white, and yellow)
There is a a coax connector that is labeled either "To TV" or "OUT", if unable to find , follow the cable from your TV back to the receiver. Disconnect that cable from the receiver, get yourself another cable from your local superstore (walmart, target, etc) and connect one end from to the connection u just disconnected, and plug that end to the "ANTENNA" or "IN" on the back of your VCR. Also connect the cable that you first disconnected from satellite receiver and connect it to your vcr's "OUT" or "to TV" connector.
Now you should be setup. Usually u turn your TV to channel 3 or 4. Turn the power on the VCR and set that to Channel 3 or 4 as well. Now turn your Satellite receiver on, you should see your satellite channel now, if not, change either the TV and/or VCR channels to any combination of 2, 3, or 4 (ie: TV channel 3, VCR channel 4, TV4 VCR3, etc, etc)
Now to record, set the Satellite Reciever to the channel u want to record, hit record on the VCR and it should record
