When taken orally THC has been shown to be neuroprotective and immuno stimulating. However smoking anything can weaken the immune system because it damages the lungs. If you are worried about cancer, I recommend using a water pipe, but make sure to empty and change the water every time you use it, this can be a hassle but you don't want bacteria growing in the water. THC is not water soluble so you will get the same amount of THC, but you will only get a small fraction of the tar and carcinogens. As far as toxicity THC is one of the least toxic alkaloids on the planet, it is impossible to consume a lethal dose of marijuana by smoking it, however it could increase the risk of heart attack if you are already at serious risk. Marijuana is the drug of choice for people with damaged organs who can no longer metabolize opiates. There are people with severe organ damage who would die from taking a single tylenol, yet they can smoke marijuana all day with no negative side effects. The only real physical danger of marijuana is it is a potent appetite enhancer and overconsumption of food can aggrevate many medical conditions. Marijuana may effect memory, but this is not due to brain damage, it is due to the brain not labeling things as important while it is intoxicated on THC, the brain is more interested in the intoxication then storing memory.
There has never been a documented fatality from marijuana or THC overdose.

As with anything else, it's bad if you do it too much.
If you smoke tobacco, it is much worse for you. While weed has much more tar than tobacco, tobacco (nicotine) kills the cillia in your lungs, which are the mechanism your lungs use to clean themselves. If you smoke tobacco, that tar stays in your lungs. If you don't, then your lungs will tend to clean themselves, and it's not so bad. If you smoke weed and tobacco, you have a much greater risk of cancer than even if you just smoke tobacco, but if you don't smoke tobacco, it's not really a strong likelihood for it to cause cancer.
Frankly, it has lots of health benefits, especially if taken internally as a spice or a tea rather than being smoked. In fact, as a tea it takes longer to work but lasts a lot longer, and does not have the problems inherent with smoking anything.
The biggest downside is, it's illegal.

Although people may think that smoking weed isn't bad for you, it is! It may not show much of an immediate affect on your body, like smoking cigarettes can do...but it does have long -term affects such as memory loss, slowed thinking patterns and other things.

It's horrible for you. Having one joint is equal to smoking, I believe, 6 cigarettes. It makes your risk of developing bronchitis and lung, throat, and mouth cancer increase a lot. It causes confusion, sudden mood changes, memory problems, loss of coordination, paranoia, anxiety, and depression. Also, it causes heart problems, dry mouth, weight gain (because of the munchies), chest colds, shortened attention span, decreased learning skills, and lowered immunities.

Yeah it causes the same effects as ciggies do but pot seems faster & I noticed that all my friends lost too much weight because of that.
( If you are overweight & wish to use pot to burn your calories then it is a very bad decision because my friends lost weight but they don't become lean they become thin like sick people with sickly shining eyes etc.)

ask Rob Van Dam. He is WWE champion and ECW champion and he just got pulled over with another wrestler(Sabu) with 18 grams of weed.
Now he might be fired from WWE because of a no drug policy.
There goes a mutli million contract during the highlight of his career for a lousy weed joint that barely does ****.
