This is not meant to be offensive, its just I have read many answers which say this, and after visiting Europe and travelling frequently to the USA, as well as studying european countries and the USA, I cannot see why they think this.

Also note the use of the word SOME - I am not saying that you all think this

Many Americans only hear about the oppressed countries. China, North Korea, The African struggles. They do not know anything much about Europe but hate the French anyway. They do not realize that many other countries have as many freedoms, that they do not obsess about s-x, that drugs are legal in some, that prostitution is legal in some, that most get 6 wks vacation, paid, and in lots of places businesses close for lunch for 1-3 hrs depending on the country. That people are nice and friendly and live their lives. I have no idea why this is so. Maybe they choose to be ignorant, maybe our schools don't teach the right things. They do not realize that most Europeans and people in many other countries think we worship money as our God!! That's why they dislike us

I think a lot of Americans take for granted what they hear in the Media, and formulate opinions about the rest of the world. There are not many people who have the fortune of being able to travel the world, and see for themselves. There are countries out there with as much, if not more freedom than ours. Then again, there are countries out there who could not stand for themselves if that freedom was threatened.

Because SOME of us are uneducated and think that "The land of the Free" means we are the only country with freedom. When I was very young I literally thought that if I ever went somewhere else that they would all walk in straight lines and wear the same thing. Not that anyone ever taught me that, but it was the image I got in my head when I was told that America was the land of freedom. I guess SOME people never take the time to learn more than what they are told.

Freedom is not measured in what one experiences over a period of a few months or years as a student or tourist in any country. When people say America is a free country, they aren't just talking about free speech, free press, and the like. They talk about being able to almost completely live one's life free of the government. When someone gets a job, buys a home, enrolls their kids in school, or does anything in their daily lives, they deal mostly with free enterprise or local government, neither of which can influence that person's decision.

I have no idea. May be they haven't taken into consideration that almost any thing you requires a permit or license (tax). That any "public" land is either a state park or a wildlife refuge with tons of restrictions on what you can and cant do. There are laws governing every aspect of our lives many infringing on civil liberties and natural rights. With the patriot act we can be detained, searched, Questioned with out any reason what so ever. Even with all these things however. I still wouldn't want to live any where else. I love my gas guzzling truck, my big screen TV, high speed Internet, and the opportunity to work and pay for it all. I know there are a few countries that up to speed with the US but are any of them "free"

It's weird because they really don't. European countries have far more freedom of speech than Americans to criticize that their government does. Mexicans are not affraid of publically speaking about the president like Americans are.

One word: INDOCTRINATION.

Just another belief system belonging to a group that tries like all groups to promote its ethos using either dialogue or war.

No different to any other group. Of course the place to start the indoctrination is at home. I think they have this sown up!

Hope they dont bump me off for this or call me a terrorist and a threat to free nations everywhere. I do have oil, vegetable oil. about 20 litres. Would that attract them do you think? :):):)

Maybe because we do have more freedoms.
Not all americans use all their freedoms, and most people that vist the US never understand all the freedoms that we here in the US have.

Your not offending me. It's because we do. I'll never forgot a what a Friend of mine from Germany said to me. This was 10 years ago. He said "it's hard to be an American because you have so many choices".
