That is the way seems these days... people, even good people are afraid to speak up for fear of retaliation... on many levels.

i don't think its fear as such more of a fitting in thing. i think and its only me, that most of us feel the same way. the new tool of oppression the war on terror has us all frozen with a fear that anything could happen anytime speaking from the heart would appear weak, and the sad thing is only a small proportion control the majority, we need to look at what we really need and share the rest might make equal = peace who knows?

I find that Liberals tend towards censorship and the silencing of ideas contrary to their own (even when the facts support the point(s) of the opposition).

I am not afraid to speak out when among a large group of them, (like at certain NYU-sponsored gatherings), but I certainly watch my back at all times.

Oh please!!! If you can't say what you think here; then you've got a real problem! I've spoken my mind more here than I have any where else ever. I think it's just smoke to say something else negative about conservatives, but remember, Bobby Kennedy was McCarthy's right-hand man. McCarthy was eventually found to have a brain tumor and died not long after that. What was Bobby's excuse? Thirst for power, perhaps?

hardly,,,, speaking ones mind in some instances can get you fired or a court-martial, or a military tribunal, perhaps even an impeachment again in the presidency,, this time I hope we get a conviction, along with his VP, I think people who belong to churches or follow groups have difficulty breaking from their tribe.
