You can't.
The only way you can increase speed is to have a better internet connection. If you have a cable modem that is the best and you shouldn't need to increase speed. If you have dial-up then I feel sorry for you...if you have DSL then it's not too bad.

Get a faster line is easily. There are some programs that will open up the XP SP2 limitation on download setting. I've try it and it only improve a slight % gain and have the firewall security wide open. So I am not recommending it. Search internet speed and you'll find the program.

There's a couple of different strategies. One is to maximize the number of concurrent downloads. There are download managers and the like that you can get to do this.
A second strategy is to attempt to tune the MTU (maximum transmission unit) of your TCP/IP stack on your PC. The main idea is that you don't want packets unnecessarily fragmented in either direction. You want your MTU to match the MTU of your ISP's router. Below is a good starting point for you to explore this issue further.

If you have to many things downloaded, new downloads will take forever. I don't know if this is the case for you but if so clean it up. Delete

if you are on a dialup connection ask your isp if they have web accelerator account. this will increase your connection speed up to 3 times

dwnld speed may b slow due to firewall setting by ur ISP , if u hv access to router u can re-route thru diff. port not within firewall settings to get max possible speed available with ISP.
