I work with this lady and all she does is complain and cuss about everything she can think about that has to do with her job area.
shes a very rude and unhappy person ,and will try to do things to get you in trouble with the boss. shes not easy to get along with at all. do you have any suggestions of what i can do to keep her from getting on my nerves? ive tried to ignore her but she makes that difficult to do.

1) Don't allow her negativity to affect you. Be positive always. When she walks up to you. Imagine that she is some cartoon character (believe me you would be smiling inside) and tell yourself mentally that you will not be stressed.
2) Avoid her if you can. If you can't reduce the time she spends with you by interrupting her babbling with a smile and saying 'oops I just remember, I need to copy something or type something or do anything' and walk off before she continues. If you have to be at your desk. Tell her with a big smile that you sure have a lot to do and pretend to be doing something.
3) If you are with the boss, try to be assertive by talking up before she does, that way you get the first words in.
4) Just do your work very well and refuse to be like her (remember she is just a cartoon).

I look after people, mostly elderly. One of them is constantly all upset about things going on in the world that she can't control. It's been a bit better since she stopped getting the newspaper but she still watches CNN.
Another lady who is house-bound complains about the most stupid things such as accusing her family of exchanging her suitcase for someone else's, as if she is ever going to use it. Like so what? I feel like telling her "you're 89 and never leave the house, why do you care!?"

If this is only the first time you've run across this then your either very young or very lucky. Any place I have ever worked if people had time on their hands they used it to complain. Backstabbing is the second oldest profession BTW.
