This is how I try to explain Futbol (soccer): It's like watching a bunch of retarded monkeys running around chasing a little ball and running into each other trying to kick that tiny ball into a huge net and fail nearly 100% of the time. Somehow this makes sense and hundreds of millions of people enjoy it.

Did you watch the Italy v. Ukraine game a few days ago? Italy scored three goals. In response to your question, the World Cup games are usually low scoring because the world's best players are competing for a prize that is only given out once every four years. It's like an all-star game, but the stakes are much higher.

The idea behind soccer is that it takes a lot of skill, patience, effort, and preparation to score. Teams really have to work to score a goal. It's also a whole lot harder to get lucky in soccer than in basketball or baseball.
I think that part of the reason this game has so much appeal around the world is because it's so easy to start playing. I've watched kids play this game with an empty 20 oz. pepsi bottle as their ball and makeshift goal markers. It's easier to get a pick up game of soccer going than of almost anything else. In A soccer game it's also possible to tie and still receive credit in the standings, which you don't see in america anywhere but in hockey. This gives team a whole lot more incentive to play even when they're down.
If you're having trouble enjoying soccer, try looking for the ways in which teams try to set up a score, or look to see what you can understand about a team's playing style (defensive with an emphasis on the quick counterattack, physical and overpowering, lots of finesse and probing for openings, whatever). If it's possible, try finding someone else who understands the game, and watch one with them.

there are no goals because

these 4 teams have the highest standards of football, and the strongest game play in the world for now

the only way the opponents will find a goal is if the team makes an error which is unlikely..

usually the finals end up in a penalty shoot-out

trust me a penalty shoot out is much more exciting than normal play

With these last 4 teams, you would be VERY lucky to see a team score two points.

You should have watched Argentina's early matches if you want to see a lot of scoring...but they went downhill after those games.

Italy beat Ukraine 3-0 in the last match, you didn't watch that one?

i don't understand your point, bob. you say they don't score because it's the best players in the world, and it only happens once every 4 years. so if it's the best players in the world, why can't they score? if the best players in the world can't kick the ball in the huge net, then who the h*ll can?
