I read that workers and bosses rather have someone that they can get along easily knowing that person does not know how to do the work, then having to work with someone who is smarter than they are, but does not get along well.

I was told, from a manager, at an orientation about a month ago that she WOULD rather work with a nicer a person that is trainable. She doesn't want to train or work with the more difficult person.

If the inexperienced worker is capable of learning, then it is usually the case in blue collar jobs.
When it comes to something requiring specialized knowledge the employer usually wants someone who knows the work very, very well so that he doesn't need to know it himself. But there are lots of people who can fill that position so if an employee is difficult to get along with (acting superior, talking down to others, etc...) they usually are not tolerated for very long.
Work place personality conflicts are a tremendous problem and I don't know a boss alive who wouldn't avoid such a situation if given the opportunity.

Sometimes that is the case. And sometimes ( even where I work) all the bosses have favorites, if you are not a favorite to any you are basically fired. Stupid isnt'? I stay away from stuff like that and gossip. That will really get ya fired!

that's is ABSOLUTELY NOT true. i had an employee that on a personal level...i could NOT stand the girl. but as an employee, she was awesome. she knew her job and did it well

of course not everyone is mature enough to separate "personal feelings", and job performance.
