There can be as many as they want there to be. However most of the cast signed on for three. Except Tobey Maguire's contract is negotiated for each one. He almost didn;t make it into Part 2 and they were going to replace him with Jake Gylenhaal.

The main actors are under contract for 3 movies. I don't know about additional sequels.

I've only heard of three. The three main actors of the movie were signed up for three films.
