GOOD secondary school English teachers are in demand everywhere. That would include individuals committed to helping young people, those who truly believe that ALL students can learn, those who have a passion for the subject, those who are willing to tailor instruction to meet the needs and learning styles of all students, those who have compassion and realize that he/she is NOT teaching English majors but rather teens, many of whom struggle with the language, those who know and understand grammar and who can write and speak well themselves. Now if that is you, then apply wherever you want because you will be a great teacher and VERY much in demand!!

I hope this helps. Good Luck!!

I taught English for 26 years and was a high school principal for 14 years. I ended my career by spending the last 11 years in the classroom.

North Carolina has a severe teacher shortage. There is a large turnover from teachers with 1-5 years of experience. There is also an enormous number of teachers, particularly in secondary level, who are retiring.
