Here's a neat trick if you want to both delete and recover history.

You need to use the Opera or Firefox browsers because these have discrete history files. You also need an encryption program like GPG.

Delete:
1) make an encrypted copy of the history file and give it a wierd name (not 'mypornsites')
2) Hide it somewhere nonobvious (not that important).
3) Use the Firefox or Opera 'erase history' function.

Recover:
1) Decrypt the file and copy it back to the original location.
2) Start the browser.

In C:\WINDOWS maybe temp? if you click around you'll find something, or maybe in your My Documents folder, make sure you're set to show hidden files too though. Haven't done it in a while so I kinda forgot. :P
