SInce this is a big adjustment and most of the time people don't have the time pets really need, I would get a companion.
Animals do not easily forget like some people might think and can become depressed.
A new playmate is probably the best solution. I know a lot of people who keep Netherland Dwarf rabbits with their guinea pigs as companions. That way it would be a new friend not a replacement.

well, there are 3 options here:
1. comfort her and get her used to being independent and getting all of the attention.
2. get her a new playmate and see how she reacts
3. if they've been together all of their lives, that means that hi playmate will probably die very soon

Give it a lot of attention. Most will do OK, some will grieve (stop eating and drinking). One of mine lost his friend. Even though there was only a wire fence between him and another one, for 2 days he only ate just a tiny bit. I held him for a long time for a couple of days and he was then OK.
Treatment for a grieving piggie is very intense. they have to be hand fed with water and nutrical and a mild sedative.
Your piggie will love you for using the web below..Happy pigging. Sorry for your loss, I've lost 3 this year to old age,(6 1/2 yrs) old

If the remaining guinea pig isn't running around looking for his companion, then there's nothing that needs to be done. Many animals have an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality. They have short life spans, so there's a chance they'll be together soon.

It's playmate will greive for a little while, but it should get better...just like humans! Take it out and give it extra attention. Let it know that you love it. Maybe eventually get it another playmate!

i'm sorry to hear. when i had two guinea pigs together and one died i just let it be. the other guinea pig lived years after. you can get another one but you have to be carefull with the age difference and be prepared if they do not get along.

Well i had the same situation. my guinea pig use to look up to the other like she was her mother. i just treated her. took her out of her cage. fed her her favorite fruits. she didnt show any sadness. i tried to distract her as much as possible. she went to her little funeral though. i think she was fine.
